The National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party(PDP), Prince Uche Secondus today, led a Delegation of dignitaries to Calabar the Cross River State capital to inaugurate the newly constituted Caretaker Committee of the party in the state chaired by, Barr. Efiok Cobham, former deputh Governor of Cross River state.
The Caretaker Committee has the following members; Barr. Efiok Cobham (Chairman), Barr. Attah Ochinke, Dr. Uke Enun, Prof. Walter Mboto, Hon. Rita Agbo Ayim (Publicity Secretary), Hon. Mike Usibe, Hon. Christopher Ekpo, Mr. Victor Effiom Okon, Prince K.j. Agba, Hon. Eko Atu (Secretary).
The dignitaries were received at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar by a mammoth crowd of party faithfuls and supporters before heading to the party’s newly acquired Secretariat(Annex), which sits at the former zoo Garden hotel, Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar.
Prince Uche Secondus after inaugurating the Committee, urged its members to remain committed to the ideologies of the party which is centred around equality to all regardless of gender, culture or class. He restated that the major focus of the executive should be to winning more members into PDP family.
In his acceptance speech, onbehalf of members of the Committee, the chairman Barr. Effiok Cobham thanked the leadership of the party at the National level for finding all them worthy to serve in this capacity at this strategic time in the life of the party, he restated the loyalty of the committee member to the party and its founding principles.
Highpoint of the event was the speeches given by various dignitaries at the event; speaking at the event, Former presidential candidate eulogised Former Governors of Cross River state for the legacies they laid, he restated that "Cross River State was a model of unity in our country".
Also speaking at the event, Former governor of cross River state and 2019 Presidential candidate under the platform of SDP, stated that his return was long planned and he is back to the family he truly belongs to.
Former Governor, Liyel Imoke also hailed the courage of those who refused all pressure to join the APC with Gov. Ayade, stating that the APC was a dead party only awaiting its burial. He added that the party is better positioned to win elections in the state in 2023 more than any other party.
The chairman of the PDP governors forum, Alh. Aminu Tambuwal, thanked party leaders, members of the National Assembly and every stakeholder who stood for the right thing to be done at all times, adding that democracy can only thrive when political parties do the right thing.

Gershom Bassey, Sen.(Prof), Sandy Onor, Rt.Hon Daniel Asuquo, Rt.Hon Etta Mbora, Local Government chapter Chairmen of the party, Rt.Hon. Basey Ewa, Some members of the state Caretaker Committee, Ex appointees of government at different levels, leaders of some support group all took turns to address the teeming supporters who were on ground.

7 commissioners which include, Francis Etta, Asu Okang, Mike Usibe, Rita Ayim, Donatus Etim, Goddy Etta, Gabe Odu Oji, have so far refused to defect to the All Progressives Congress(APC), with Gov. Ayade thereby leading to the rejection of their appointment letters and further relieving of their appointments, the commissioners and other appointees who have so far resigned their appointments with the state Government sited their loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party as the reason behind their actions.
